Local Bookshops

Waterstones

62, 14 Park Way, Newbury RG14 1AY, UK – 01635 43996

I really do like this place although it's not without downsides. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and there is an excellent small but adequate coffee shop where you can sit and read books. The selection of books is good but a little limited. The location however is not as good as the previous two floor shop and seems to have been chosen for its prime location in Parkway and could do with being larger. Like any bookshop it suffers from Amazon being cheaper but this is not always as much as you would think. The final niggle (but this is common now to all bookshops) is that there is a very poor selection of technical and IT books. I don't think there has been anyway to go for technical and science books since Borders closed some years ago. These niggles are, alas, just how the industry has had to change to survive against Amazon. Overall, this is an excellent place to buy (or talk) books.

Never read a book in my life, bit the coffee is good, you can bring your dog and the Tiffin is divine.

Shoemakers

Market Pl, Newbury RG14 5AD, UK – 01635 37836

This is no ordinary book shop..there has always been a welcome here..a place to browse and have a light lunch with tea ,coffee or other drinks. all the food is now gluten free which brings an even greater experience to any who are gluten intolerant.. I myself am not but the quality is so good you may struggle to know that its gluten free .this is a real place of peace..

Who needs Costa ! Delicious homemade gluten free cake, hot cup of coffee friendly staff and customers alike. I will definitely be visiting again.
